Skala is a popular beach resort on the south-eastern coast of Kefalonia.
Much of the accommodation, including the hotels listed below, is within walking distance of the beach, although some studio and apartment accommodation is available in elevated positions in the hills behind Skala.
If you know when you are planning to go but haven't decided on accommodation, then use the search form to the right to get an idea of which hotels are available and to compare prices during the period you wish to travel.
(Please note that this selection will also include some guesthouses, pensions and self-catering apartments for those who are interested in that form of accommodation!)
If your accommodation does not have a swimming pool – relax – most hotels will let you use their facilities, providing you and your party are buying drinks and food there (not just one bottle of water!). There is also a pool bar in Skala along the sea front.
The transfer time from the airport near Argostoli is around 50 minutes by taxi or car, but it is worth noting that the transfer can take around 1hr 45 minutes by coach if you are on a package holiday.
There is a daily bus to Argostoli which costs just under €5pp each way. The air-conditioned KTEL coach leaves in the morning from the tree by the square at the kiosk by the church and takes around 1 hr 20 minutes to get to the capital. Generally the bus leaves Argostoli after lunch to return to Skala.
The same bus also goes via Katelios and Lourdas – both have great beaches and are easily accessible.
In the opposite direction, you can catch the bus to Poros, Skala’s closest port town. Ferries leave from here to Kylini on the mainland on a regular basis.
Taxis are used to travel some of the hotels out of the resort, and for those staying at accommodation above the main village. The taxi rank is found outside of Metaxa Beach Bar and for a 4km taxi ride the charge is €6.
There is a water taxi available from Skala to Poros and Katelios and in 2016 the price was €15 per person return at specified times. Visit Captain Kostas on the beach near the taxi rank for updated information.
