Lourdata (the village) or Lourdas (the beach) is a quaint and traditional resort, around 17km from the capital Argostoli.
The main pull of the resort is the beautiful stretch of beach with its stunning array of different shades of blue and its waterfront bars and tavernas. You can catch amazing sunsets here and sit after dark and listen to the waves crashing on the shore.
The standard of restaurants and tavernas in Lourdas is very good, and the locals here tend to treat you like lifelong friends.
Further up the hill, just past the main square, you have the crossroads with a selection of tavernas and restaurants. This is where you will find the infamous Andromeda restaurant run by Kostas and his team. This restaurant boasts magnificent views and offers regular live music.
From here onwards, the bars and tavernas are more spread out throughout the hillside and the roads run to the neighbouring village of Trapezaki.
You can walk all the way along the beach at Lourdas, past Kanali Beach, which is also a nudist beach and onto Trapezaki Beach.
If you spot a turtle on the beach here, do not be surprised in the early part of the season, however, please do not disturb them as there is a big risk of them returning into the sea and not laying their eggs which can cause a decline in the future turtle population. If you spot a turtle in any trouble or have any questions, you can contact the team of experts at Kefalonia Wildlife.
The resort does have some drawbacks: it is hilly and spread out and this may pose problems for those with walking difficulties. However, taxis are available to take you back to your hotel or apartment after the evening meal if required.
Lourdas is certainly growing in popularity, and with a good standard of accommodation and bars/tavernas, it is easy to see why. A great peaceful hideaway for you romantics!
